The Genuine Self Images (GSI) Alliance is built around a central theme:
Don’t reinvent the wheel; revolutionize it.

To date, there are approximately 1.5 million non-profit organizations—not including for-profit mission-based organizations.¹ Every month, there are new organizations starting up that offer similar (or even the same) services as existing businesses, yet these are struggling to survive. With current economic challenges and an increasing shortage of grant funding, the odds of receiving a social entrepreneurship grant are very low.

In 2007, public charities reported over $1.4 trillion in total revenues and nearly $1.3 trillion in total expenses, consisting of:

  • 22% from contributions, gifts, and grants;
  • 67% from program service revenues, including government fees and contracts;
  • 11% from “other” sources, including dues, rental income, special event income, and gains or losses from goods sold.

As only 22% of funding is derived from contributions, gifts, and grants, competition is tough, with every major organizational fundraising committee simultaneously targeting its sources. The total revenue from programs and services is 67%, which is the core component to the survival of a company.

How GSI Works…

GSI faced a series of questions:

  • How can we further capitalize on programs and services?
  • How can we reform our services to appeal to the younger markets?
  • How can we lower our costs by leveraging other mission-based organizations, thus making a greater impact?

To answer these questions, GSI has developed a robust business model and formed an alliance based on five fundamental concepts:

Our Five Fundamental Beliefs…

Mission: Our mission, money, and core competencies are equally aligned, where funding molds to our mission, not vice-versa. The mission remains paramount to our operating principles.

Technology: Medical and social mission are two of the most important industries, yet are furthest behind in technological advances. Our alliance collaborates and focuses on ways to leverage technological advances, creating delivery methods and strategies to reach and teach teens with solid content substance.

Mobilization: By partnering with other respected organizations across the United States, GSI will be able to supplement and mobilize localized services and curriculum. Our unique delivery methods will enable programs to reach the underserved communities, such as rural areas, housing developments, and other venues absent of local programs and/or families without transportation to relevant activities.

Strategy: With the GSI’s Alliance, we will reform how we do business. Collectively, we will focus on collaboration, innovative ways to keep costs to a minimum, and strategies to provide quality services at little or no cost to the community.

Activities: Members of our GSI Alliance will work together to host, sponsor, participate in, and endorse creative activities that will appeal to our target market.

As missions align, members of our alliance collaborate to streamline efforts, promote or leverage programs and services, and strive to achieve a greater impact on our teen and young adults.
